Mr & Mrs Smith

real weddings

Every little girl dreams of being a princess. As we get older, most young women dream of being a bride. I knew without a doubt that I was marrying the right man the day he said our wedding was about me being a princess for a day!

We gave ourselves two years to plan our wedding, every decision felt so important. We’d met several photographers at various wedding fayres but couldn’t decide who to trust with such a huge responsibility.

David was recommended to us by a work colleague. Apparently he had photographed their friend’s wedding and was known for his contemporary style which we wanted. We met David and Vicky together and were instantly taken with their chemistry; they bounced ideas around and got excited with us when we told them our plans. Within half an hour we were ready to pay the deposit. We opted for the Designer package with the multi-sized images and booked Vicky as a 2nd photographer.

On the day Vicky arrived early, as planned. She captured so many of the small things that mean so much to a bride and so much of the excitement that surrounded me that morning.

David’s arrival signalled the real start – the girls all had their hair and makeup done and were getting dressed, but not before a few storybook shots were taken and some very funny photos to capture the atmosphere in the room. I could never have envisaged being photographed in a bath! That’s how relaxed David made me feel. All the bridesmaids felt the same and not one of us was worried about how the photos would make us look – quite an achievement with six of us!

David then went to meet the groom and his groomsmen and family at a pub near the church; the shots of the boys are really good fun, and again they were all happy to have David around, despite the nerves of the day.

As I arrived at the church David was there waiting. Seeing him instantly made me feel comfortable, it meant everything was on track! We decided not to pose anything but to just capture the events naturally as I made my grand entrance. During the ceremony they had secretly taken some great shots without disturbing us or the guests, we were so grateful. All the things we didn’t see at the time were preserved perfectly for us.

We planned on having mostly informal coverage with the minimum of groups shots. We’d been to so many weddings where people were made to hang around whilst the photographer sets things up, we wanted to avoid this. However, the impression from our guests was that everyone was really enjoying themselves, it seemed they wanted to be photographed. We asked for some extra random group shots and David happily obliged.

We were delighted they had captured so many spontaneous moments, the individual characters plus lots of detail and scene setting photos. All the things that were so important in recording the events of the day as we remembered it.

In addition to the daytime, David stayed with us throughout the meal, the speeches and into the evening. The photos of the speeches are priceless – you can really see the nerves and the humour in everyone’s expressions.

The photos of the first dance are so intimate and capture so much of how we felt at that time – and yet we didn’t feel we were being photographed, which for us was fantastic.

Our proofs were waiting for us on return from honeymoon. We hadn’t really been aware of David and Vicky taking loads of photos, but so much of what we had enjoyed had been captured and so many things that we hadn’t seen on the day were there for us to see, they were all fantastic. Choosing our favourites for the album was such a difficult task, with so many priceless memories we just had to have them all put onto DVD. The finished album is truly amazing, a big thank you David and Vicky for capturing our wonderful day.
